Piano
Marita Rodriguez has a thriving career as a solo pianist, chamber musician, and educator. She is a member of the Cuban Nacional Concert Music Center (CNMC) and National Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), which awarded her the Amadeo Roldan Award for her outstanding merits and contributions to the music of Cuba. Ms. Rodriguez has also been awarded the National Culture Medal, the Pedagogical Merit Award, and the Cuban Education Award by the University of Havana.
Ms. Rodriguez graduated with honors from the University of the Arts (ISA), and later pursued a Master’s Degree at the Liszt Academy (Hungary) and the Prague Academy (Czech Republic). She obtained Chamber Music and Advanced Piano diplomas at ISA, as well as a German Lieders Diploma with German professors at the Mozart Lyceum of Havana. She was on the piano faculty of the University of the Arts for 30 years, founded the Trio D’Camera, worked with the National Lyric Theatre, and judged many piano and chamber music competitions in Cuba.
Ms. Rodriguez founded the Dio D’Accord with clarinetist Vicente Monterrey. Her leadership grew the duet to be one of the most acclaimed chamber music ensembles in Cuba. Together, they recorded the album Tarde en La Habana with Cuban chamber 20th and 21st century repertoire. Together, they performed in Cuba, Mexico, and the United States, and participated in events such as the National Chamber Music Festival and the Salzburg-Havana International Festival. Other recordings include Mozart en La Habana (Grand Prize at the International Fair, Cubadisco) with Mozart piano sonatas, Cuento Sinfónico, as a soloist with Cuba’s National Symphony Orchestra, En el Huerto del Cantar with Maestro Harold Gramatges’ complete works for piano and voice, Música de Cámara, Cuba y Puerto Rico, and Barroco Trópico with the Música Eterna Chamber Orchestra, among others.
As a soloist, Ms. Rodriguez has performed in concerts and given lectures internationally, including “Pianistic Panorama of Cuban Concert Music” in Virginia, Amsterdam, Mexico, and Quebec; “Cuba Week” in Alabama and the Cancun International Music Festival, “Concert of the Americas” in Denver and Boulder, Colorado; UNEAC International Contemporary Music Festivals; Casa de la Americas Composition Awards; and Early Music Festivals, among others. She has toured in Canada, Czech Republic, Spain, and Hungary.
Since moving to Florida, Ms. Rodriguez continues her journey as an educator and artist. She was at the “Clarinet Fest 2023” with the well-known clarinetist, Osiris Molina (Denver, Colorado). She was also a jury member at the “Third Collaborative Duo Competition” and at the 18th Annual New Music Festival with the clarinetist Dunia Abreu at Lynn University (Boca Raton, Florida). Ms. Rodriguez performed at the Saladrigas Gallery with soprano and CEC voice faculty member, Eglise Gutierrez, and is now working on multiple new projects. Ms. Rodriguez has been on the Conservatory piano faculty since 2024.18.
